Sitting in my car watching it rain
Driving the back roads and country lanes
Calves in the field near a grey weathered barn
A murder of crows telling each other yarns

Does a mind good to get this far from town
Silence the sirens and slow your life down
Too many cell phones with orchestral rings
Too many people chasing too many things

Thinking of all the new life on this farm
Busted old truck turned into fieldmouse homes
Migrating birds heading north in a swarm
Buds turn to leaves. Shake the cold from my bones

And I know it's just a break from all I must do
I know I gotta go, go back in
Keep a little spring song in my head
Helps me push away, push away the din

I can see the point in just hanging around
Hold on to all that remains of the day
No need to move at the speed of sound
Looking for a clear break in the skies of grey
